Please reference https://rotate.aero/forum/767-28fuel/765-surge-tank-sensors for the beginnings of this story.....
The absolute last thing I want to do is call for a fuel tank harness change unless I absolutely know a change is needed.
I have a surge tank HiZ to Shield dead short (1Ω). I disconnect the probe at the far end of the cable..... the short is still present.
I disconnect the wing root disconnect plug..... the short is gone.
What is literally, avionics trained or not, a person supposed to think? The short is with the harness itself.
I called for a change.
The harness was changed and the problem was "still" there. WTF????
I take a good look at the aircraft side tank disconnect plug and notice it has a really shitty tape wrap job. OK..... lets open it up.

Well..... look at that shit. Three grounds that were touching the shield crimp held "only" by the tape wrap
But more importantly, the damned HiZ signal wire is installed in pin 1. This is a shield ground pin. The wire was supposed to be in pin 6.
Just what do you think is going to happen when you connect the plug up. Pin 1 is going to go STRAIGHT TO GROUND.
I don't just go opening up plugs as part of troubleshooting unless it's warranted. With my initial troubleshooting, it wasn't warranted here.

After I fixed the fu@k-ups, the readings were good and normal fueling could be accomplished.
So, I have co-workers who just can't understand the big picture here. They joke at me thinking that I screwed up when in reality they're just plain clueless. I really want to call them out.... but it's just not worth it with some people. (JW)
